Student Hack #1 - Snip & Sketch on Windows

Updated: Jan 16, 2021

Hey there!

Did you ever need to take a screenshot of your laptop screen and had to use your phone’s camera? Or did you try downloading software or an App to munch your screen? However, you found that both rendered the image not up to par with your phone’s equivalent.

Look no further! We have a solution for you. Snip & Sketch (encircled in the pink highlight) is an app on the Windows operating system (e.g. Windows 10) that does the job. The app highlighted in yellow, Snipping Tool, is the older version you might find on previous versions of Windows.

How does it work?

There are 3 ways by which you can access this app, namely:

  • Option 1: you should locate it in your Windows menu under the folder Windows Accessories.

  • Option 2: type “snip” after you press the windows menu key.

  • Option 3: this is a shortcut where you have to hold down the windows menu key, the shift key and S key, possibly in that order.

… And voilà, you can crop any part of your screen using the “rectangular snip” or “freeform snip” or take a “Window snip” or “full-screen snip”. It is also possible to makes sketches or highlights like was done in the image above and then save your image in JPG, PNG or GIF format.

Tschüss, till next time!
